September is a month of changes. The seasons are changing, the kids have gone back to school and the mind-set moves from summer holidays and warm weather to darker evenings and the run up to Christmas. It can be a month of worry and uncertainty within an office which can sometime lead to an unhappy workforce.
Keeping an office motivated through the next three months is critical to ensuring a strong team that communicates and supports each other and ultimately succeeds.
‘If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself’ – Henry Ford
Whether you are looking to bring the team together, work on communication or just have some fun, there are a number of team building activities out there to accomplish this. Here are some tips to ensure you pick the right event for you and your team.
Know your objectives
What do you want to get out of the event? Does the team need to work on communication or are there Leadership issues that need resolving? There are a range of teambuilding events that focus on different objectives so you should always find the right one for you. ‘The Crystal Challenge’ will highlight team work, communication and leadership skills through a number of fun challenges, while a ‘Together We Can’ needs everyone to work together to produce a successful outcome, highlighting the need for team work. Use the event consultant to help guide you to the right event option for your objectives.
Know your group dynamics
A big mistake organisers make when choosing a teambuilding event is to make their selection based on what they would like to do. Consideration needs to be taken to ensure everyone within the group will enjoy and benefit from the event. Be mindful of people’s age and abilities. ‘The Perfect Teambuild’ as the name suggests, has a great mix of both mental and physical challenges, making it the perfect choice for a mixed group of ages and abilities.
Make sure you chose an event that works for your numbers
An ‘It’s a Knockout’ (catering for large groups of 30 +) might seem like a fun and exhilarating event, however if there are only 10 of you, it is unlikely you will get the same experience as a group of 50. Take the advice of the event consultant who can advise on the best options for your group size. This way you are guaranteed a fun and worthwhile teambuilding event.
Choose an event that fits your itinerary
Finding time to fit a teambuilding event into a working day can be difficult, especially if meeting time is also required. There are a number of different event options catering from one hour, up to a full day. A ‘Drumming’ workshop for example is a great energiser to start off a conference, whereas ‘The Parmesan Job’ can be completed from between 3 to 5 hours.
Whatever event you choose, use the experience to bring your team together, learn something new and ultimately have fun as a group because, Together Everyone Achieves More!
