Team building over dinner can be very effective. There are a number of events that would be suitable for this; including Murder Mysteries, a Quiz or something interesting like a Generation Game tribute show.
Having some form of bonding fun activity running over dinner encourages tables to interact. The banter between tables is also team bonding and will bring the whole room together. Sometimes it’s appropriate to choose who sits where in the room in order to encourage people who don’t usually interact to get to know each other. This can help the event as if teams are too entrenched they can form a huddle over business or their shared interest and it can make them zone out of the event.
One final advantage of team building over dinner is that it can be organised after work. There is an increasing trend for organising events that don’t take away from work hours and, most of the time, people don’t want to give up a weekend day. A weekday evening is something that many will occasionally sacrifice and it can solve the problem of when to organise team building. We have often heard the remark that the cost of having people out of work far exceeds the cost of any activity they may be doing.
