A treehouse.

Up in the trees - a treehouse

There are treehouses at several conference venues around the UK and they are great meeting places for smaller groups. Most comfortably take up to a dozen people although some are larger. They have all the facilities of a typical conference room with meeting tables, flipcharts and electrics – but there the similarity ends.

Treehouses are built in quiet wooded areas in most venues and you feel completely away from the hustle and bustle and your usual work environment. Surrounded by a wood construction and looking out on green trees unleashes creativity and helps you to see things in a new light. They’re great as bases for team building activities as well.

Call us for information on venues with treehouses.

Two men communicate during a team building activity.Event the simplest team building activities can have genuine business-linked benefits, for example encouraging good communication. Good communication requires clarity, appropriate detail and checks to ensure that what has been said has been understood.

The key to making a success of events with a business focus is to ensure that they remain enjoyable and that the learning isn’t laboured. People generally enjoy communicating and learning how to do things more effectively, so combined with fun activities it can be very powerful.

Just because it’s fun it doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be safe. It amazes us that huge companies with the most stringent health and safety standards will hire event companies without checking health and safety, risk assessments and even whether they are covered by adequate insurance.

Team building activities can be fun without being risky. Often it’s the illusion of risk that gives an activity an edge, particularly for participants who do not regularly experience outdoor pursuits.

It’s easy enough to get this information. Good companies will have a few documents to hand that can be emailed and kept for due diligence purposes.

Enjoying quad biking
Enjoying quad biking

You can give a business justification for many team building activities; whether it’s improving teamwork, promoting leadership or encouraging communication. With quad bikes it’s hard to come up with any serious business outcome to link it to without being spurious.

So, there it is, quad bikes are a fun event and that’s the end of it. The company you work for thinks enough of you to book an activity purely for your enjoyment. You feel valued, rewarded and return to work motivated and more productive.

That’s quite a justification.
