Quad bikes have been running round the corporate event circuit from the very start of the team building trend. They have always been one of the staple activities in the round robin multi activity format, along with archery, laser clays, off road driving and those sorts of activities.
Riding quad bikes is undoubtably fun, but is it team building? We’re back to the much discussed use of the phrase team building. Some say that it doesn’t cover the sort of social team bonding positive shared experienced type of activities that quad biking represents. Yet clients call these activities team building, they use that as the search when they look for it on the internet. Why fight it?
If clients want to enjoy quad biking as a fun team building activity then they should, and they can leave the academics indoors arguing about what things should be called.

The team building year has started very well. The ongoing world financial situation is always a concern but it seems that the corporate world has recovered and is now in a more positive and expansive mood.
One of the main events of the year is the Royal Wedding and we expected April to be very quiet as a result. The double Bank Holiday also seemed to point to April being a write-off. However, bookings are already significantly up on last year and this followed a really strong March.
So, all in all 2011 is looking like a good year for fun team building activities. May it continue!

The Multi Activity Day is the typical format for a fun team building activity day.
Your group is divided into equal teams and activities are provided on a one per team basis. Teams rotate around each activity in turn in a lighthearted competition.
As an example, if you had a group of 30 people they might be divided into four teams of 7/8 and presented with four different activities from a list of events. It’s good to balance the activities, for example some motorised, some shooting.

Murder Mysteries are a fun team building activity which usually take place over dinner. They are ideal as social team bonding and can be very relaxed or more structured where each table forms a team which tries to solve the murder.
The event suits a mixed group as some people will want to get involved, often to the degree that they become suspects themselves. For others it’s enjoyable to sit back and watch the script unfold.
This event fits into the fun end of the team building spectrum and it would not be realistic to expect specific business linked outcomes, but as a way of getting people to relax and get to know each other outside work it is very effective.
Chocolate Making Event November 20, 2009

There are always trends in corporate fun team building activities and there’s no doubt that cooking has been the most popular trend of 2009 and in particular chocolate making events.
This event is suitable for small groups, working as one team, through to large groups of a couple of hundred where the group is divided into teams.
Plenty of equipment is provided and all sorts of varied ingredients. A Master Chocolatier gives a lesson in chocolate making and then oversees proceedings over the course of the event. The objective is to make a luxury box of handmade chocolates.
To give the task variety we can include an Apprentice style marketing challenge to the event, so teams have to come up with branding and present their product to a panel of judges.
Chocolate making is popular as a team building event because it appeals to a wide group of people. It is a good choice in the winter because it is an indoor activity and it can be themed; Christmas chocolate making is great fun.
The Chocolate Making Event can be held in venues around the UK, for example hotels and conference centres. Because there is no significant cooking element we do not need to use a specialist venue, so it is fairly flexible.
Chocolate making is an enjoyable team building event, and participants get to take their chocolates home for their family to enjoy … if they last that long!
Team Ski Activity October 31, 2009

Team Ski is a regular fun team building activity on Crystal Challenges and Command Task events. It is typically one of several activities and the group is divided into equal teams to attempt each challenge in a rotation.

Team Ski
The team has to ride the skis around an obstacles course with four or five of them all on the same pair of special skis. It’s a challenge of communication and teamwork.
This is one challenge where many teams are inclined to make it more complicated than it needs to be. This provides an opportunity for a discussion after the activity on overengineering solutions, if that is relevant to the team.
Another interesting version is to have a team on the skis with a manager who is helping them with the task. You can add another person and call them the consultant. The team represents the business process, or factory floor. It’s interesting to watch all of this happening and debrief afterwards.
Or you can just do it for fun!

Film making works very well as a fun team building event. There’s a clear objective and various elements to the task, so teams have to divide the work out and play to their strengths.

Film Making Team Building Activity
The brief can either be something business linked, for example an advert or documentary, or recreating a famous film. In the image they are recreating Grease.
Props and costumes add to the creativity of the event and it can be turned into quite a production.
The film can be watched over dinner on the evening of the event, which is something that participants look forward to and really enjoy.
This can be built in to an Oscars themed night with chocolate trophies and emotional acceptance speeches.
As always the highlights of this event are unscripted. It’s the in jokes and interpersonal relationships that bring the house down and ultimately build a team.
