Extreme Creativity

I love the extreme things that OK Go do. They are a band but they work with Rube Goldberg type investions to add an extra level of creativity to their music and the sheer scale of their ambition is remarkable.

Some team building events are Rube Goldberg in style. Essentially this is a machine that does something very simple in a complicated way. The game Mousetrap is a classic example and you may be familiar with W.Heath Robinson’s cartoons depicting mad invention from World War II.

It’s amazing what a group of people can do when they sit down with a load of basic materials and decide to build something. Why build something that amounts to a complicated way of achieving something? Because we can.

This strikes me as a combination of techniques used in past Honda and Hyundai ads … Not bad it blew my mind =)

I prefer their music videos. But the common view is that their music doesn’t live up to the creativity of their videos.

The setup is crazy and could not be done by average music lover unless they can find a sponsor for this special occasion.

I guess you do what you are good at — if not making music, then putting on a good show! 🙂

Maybe it’s because I no longer smoke my breakfast but I think the band flat out got it right with their own line

    “It don’t get much dumber!”

This is a real toughie for me. I can certainly appreciate the teamwork it must have taken to bring this from mind to reality, and I am generally open to just about anything when it comes to music. I guess it was just all around too busy for me.

After viewing I just don’t know what I was supposed to take away from it. I do however know what was taken away from me, about 3:54 minutes that I can never get back!
