Are Charitable Events Team Building? November 18, 2011

Across the UK offices are currently putting up with men growing impressive facial hair. It’s Movember, the month in which men grow Moustaches to raise money for prostate and testicular cancer research. It’s also Children In Need week and teams and individuals are getting involved in a variety of fun and crazy challenges to raise money for another great cause.
Organisations allow and usually encourage these exploits, even though they may take up work time and resources. The causes are very worthwhile, but having this sort of thing going on is undoubtedly also good for the organisation. Often the supporting evidence for the benefits of fun team building activities is anecdotal. We often hear people say ‘it’s the sort of thing that makes us a good company to work for’.
Charitable events at work are part of this. They are fun, great social team bonding and increase motiavtion among the work force.
